Topic: Livelock problems (revisited)

So, we celebrated too early. The livelock problems have returned and we'll have to come up with another plan.

We'll try to figure out what our next step is within the next couple of days. Hopefully we can get some further insight from a couple of OpenBSD devs that we've been in contact with.

Currently as it stands, we might either upgrade/downgrade to -release or move back down to i386. We are still unsure whether this is a multi-processor related bug, or something specific to amd64.

We'll update you guys within the next couple of days. In the meantime, hang in there - we'll get this resolved.

Re: Livelock problems (revisited)

So this is why I could not login or see the web site this morning, I received time outs and/or connection rejection messages when I tried to access shell or http://devio.us  but at the same time I was able to ping the server.

Re: Livelock problems (revisited)

I don't know if it's something you're soliciting advice from the community on, but if so, I'd like you to stick it through.  If this is a bug in OpenBSD I have no doubt it will be found and resolved and will better OpenBSD forever.

Re: Livelock problems (revisited)

I seem to be having the same livelock problem, running -current on an amd64 Dell Zino.
Nothing in /var/log, just a hard lockup about every 24 hours.

Happy to send you dmesg or any other info if it'll be helpful.

Re: Livelock problems (revisited)

Bruce, we are still trying to determine whether this is related to amd64 or a multi-processor related bug. If you could send me your dmesg I would be happy to compare it to ours and forward it to a couple of people that we are in contact with.

Despite how bad this sounds, I'm happy to see we're not the only ones experiencing the same problem.

Linkslice - yes, we're planning on sticking through, as long as the community understands what we're going through.

Re: Livelock problems (revisited)

Thanks for keeping us informed!

Still, I am wondering, whether the OpenBSD devs were aware of the livelock issues before. I guess, we are not the only ones using OpenBSD? And after all, a hardware issue seems rather unlikely. (Correct me, if I am wrong).

Re: Livelock problems (revisited)

To my understanding, they were aware of some sort of a multi-processor bug. We are currently running on the SP kernel and haven't noticed any lockups. We'll see where it goes from here. Hopefully we can get a bugfix within the next couple weeks.
