Topic: Upgrade woes

Unfortunately our upgrade plan didn't go as smooth as we expected. The SCSI cards that were available weren't supported on amd64 (while they had full support on i386). We weren't quite ready to revert the upgrade just yet, so we went ahead and tried to move the existing raid to the new hardware, but we ran into additional road blocks again. Specifically, the new opteron hardware did not handle bigmem too well.

With that said, we decided to revert back to original hardware. In the meantime, to eliminate all other possible hardware issues, we swapped out the raid card and the cpu.

Tonights emergency maintenance was a bit rushed - we didn't have time to research the gear that we were attempting to move to, and it bit us in the long run. Due to this, we have decided that we will begin purchasing all of our new gear over the upcoming weeks and perform the upgrade while updating to OpenBSD 4.7.

Thanks for hanging in there - let us know if you notice any weird issues.

We will continue approving accounts as usual. Thankfully we are now caught up smile

Sorry to hear about the troubles, your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Good luck!

Re: Upgrade woes

Thanks for all that effort, and hope things go smoothly.  How about going OpenBSD-current?  I think that would be ok provided you're cautious about the updates.
