OpenCDE is a free implementation of the Open Group's Common Desktop Environment, often found on commercial UNIX operating systems such as Solaris, AIX and HP-UX.
The OpenCDE project aims to keep the code clean and simple, thus easy to compile and port to other systems. The desktop environment will never become bloated and features that would add too much complexity to the code design will be left out until such a time when a clean solution can be implemented. After having completed my University dissertation, work on OpenCDE will now continue. Some major changes to motifmm are being made which should make it more usable for both C++ Programmers and experienced Motif C developers. The dtauth system has been dropped from the project for the forseeable future since it added complexities which I do not yet intend to address. Instead I have opted to keep everything OpenCDE provides as a very seperate application with little interaction with the underlying operating system or each other in order to keep things as simple as possible.
The version that I was using during my presentation at the Bournemouth University "unconference" has been uploaded. This provides a sneak preview of the file manager widget and a very early example of the wireless manager.
